Matthew Gray

Matt Gray is a director, actor, designer, educator, and researcher. He trained as an actor in Canada (University of British Columbia), then as a director in London (LAMDA), and then started directing and teaching in Drama Schools in the UK. While teaching, he also directed productions in Edinburgh, Bristol, London, The Netherlands, Belgium, and Germany. In 2005 he moved to Pittsburgh to teach at Carnegie Mellon University’s School of Drama, then moved to Boston in 2011 to teach at Northeastern University. He has also taught and directed at NYU Tisch. In 2015 he became Artistic Director of Salem Theatre. All the while, he has been directing (Pittsburgh, New York, Boston, and Salem), designing (Pittsburgh, Boston, Salem), teaching and exploring new ways to use performance training (Game Design, Robotics and Interactive technologies). Right now he is designing the Media for Company One Theatre’s upcoming production of Dry Land, directed by Steven Bogart, as well as mounting a four hour immersive Live Action Role Play (LARP) at the Salem Pioneer Village with Northeastern University Game Design Faculty member Alessandro Canossa.
