Building the New Play Map Version 3.0

Update # 4

We have finished work on the next iteration of The New Play Map, which we are officially launching this Wednesday, July 19th. For a history of this iteration's development, look here. Yesterday we spoke with Quilted, our web developers, about what was accomplished since the last working period.

Kiran, our project manager noted that “in the last few weeks of work when we were addressing all of the bugs we found and tying everything up, we switched how we were working. We put two developers together as a tag team to work on two projects. It was fun to up the ante of our collaborative working even further and this allowed for more troubleshooting and a successful finish.” Colin, who was the key developer working to wrap things up worked on fixing the small bugs and on completing all the styling (how things display to the user). Colin commented, “the styling was really key in terms of making everything feel more cohesive and more polished. We also did a lot of work with the new database—refining how things got stored, storing more data, and displaying new pieces of content both in the main profile area and in the search results.”

Our user-interface designer Ben “had the privilege and honor of tying the proverbial bow on this version of the Map by creating a new favicon. It was fun to see the tiny map show up in the browser bar—seeing what I designed come to life over the past few weeks has been really exciting. Ultimately, this iteration was not just the story of making the Map more functional, but also the story of making it appear a part of the Center for the Theater Commons, and part of the broader movement to share new work in the new works sector. The new brand accomplishes that, and creates a more neutral space for people to come together and share their own work and the work of the #newplay sector.”

Ultimately, this iteration was not just the story of making the Map more functional, but also the story of making it appear a part of the Center for the Theater Commons, and part of the broader movement to share new work in the new works sector.

Our high level goal for this iteration was to make a bug-free, fully functional Map, and I’m happy to say that I think we have made good on this promise. We can’t wait for you see the new New Play Map and contribute to this Commons project!

Love the redesign. However, I'm having a little trouble with an event I added a couple of days ago that is now no longer showing up when I search for it or loading when I link to it. Who can I contact about getting this fixed? I'd like to include the link on our website to help spread the word about the new play map.
