The VORTEX and Gale Theatre Company presented a performance of W.K. by Katherine Wilkinson livestreamed on the global, commons-based peer-produced HowlRound TV network at howlround.tv on Saturday 25 January at 6 p.m. PST/ 8 p.m. CST/ 9 p.m. EST. Straight from a hit run at the 2013 New Orleans Fringe festival, Gale Theatre Company teams up with The VORTEX to bring Austin its newest devised work, W.K.

W.K. is a play about love. Driven by movement, this pop culture collage follows a 7-year romance from beginning to end. Filled with swing dancing, karaoke, sex, revenge, and lots of kissing, W.K. asks the question: how does your first love change you and can you ever return to the way you were before? Taking place over 7 years, we witness the ecstatic beginnings of love and eventual deterioration of intimacy between our two main characters, Willie and Kathy. As their relationship progresses, Willie & Kathy find themselves no longer able to speak to with one another. As their communication drops away, the body becomes the main instrument for dialogue, creating a world of sharp changes and deep misunderstanding.

W.K. features the music of the local award-winning band, Mobley. Mobley is the nom de plume of frontman Anthony Watkins II, a songwriter/producer whose work has been featured in commercials, trailers, films, and on HBO’s True Blood.
