Antioch University PhD candidate Jessica Litwak will defend her dissertation about theatre as a vehicle for change using a period of history known as La Convivencia (the Co-existence) as inspiration. Through performative auto ethnography she explores her own field work in the Middle East. Using historical and arts based research Litwak investigates a community of ancient poets who briefly made peace possible between Muslims and Jews through poetic exchange in medieval Spain.
