Carol Martin's two most recent books are Theatre of the Real and Dramaturgy of the Real on the World Stage.

She has guest-edited 4 special issues of TDR, the journal of performance studies: Documentary Theatre, Japanese Avant-Garde, Performing the City, and Return of the Real.

Her essays have been published in a variety of publications including academic journals, the New York Times, and Wochi Kochi Magazine.

Her work has been translated into Polish, Japanese, Chinese, French, Turkish, and Romanian.
