For more than three decades, André Bishop has profoundly influenced the American theatre. Since January 1992 he has been the Artistic Director, and, since 2013, the Producing Artistic Director, of the Lincoln Center Theater, where he was responsible for, among many others, The Coast of Utopia, Hapgood, The Invention of Love, and Arcadia, all by Tom Stoppard, The Sisters Rosensweig by Wendy Wasserstein, Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike by Christopher Durang, Contact by Susan Stroman and John Weidman, The Light in the Piazza by Craig Lucas and Adam Guettel, Juan Darien by Julie Taymor and Elliot Goldenthal, and War Horse.  Revivals have included South Pacific, Carousel, Abe Lincoln in Illinois, Awake and Sing, Golden Boy, Seascape, A Delicate Balance, King Lear, Henry IV, and The Heiress.

Before Lincoln Center, he spent a decade as Artistic Director of Playwrights Horizons, where his productions included The Heidi Chronicles, Driving Miss Daisy, and Sunday in the Park with George.

Bishop's many awards include eleven Tony Awards for "Best Production."  He has been inducted into the Theatre Hall of Fame.
