John Freedman hosts the first in a planned series of monthly talks about interesting Moscow buildings that are closely bound up in the city's cultural history. Today the topic will be the large apartment building at 25 Tverskaya Street where famed playwright Nikolai Erdman lived in the 1950s. In fact, Erdman was hardly the only well-known artist residing here—the building was erected specially for employees of the Bolshoi Theatre. The talk will be in English.

John Freedman is an American writer and translator who has lived in Moscow since 1988. He is the author of several plays and the author or editor of 10 books about Russian theatre, including Silence's Roar: The Life and Drama of Nikolai ErdmanProvoking Theater: Kama Ginkas Directs (co-authored with Ginkas), and Real and Phantom Pains: An Anthology of New Russian Drama. He has been a member of the Stanislavsky Electrotheatre team since October 2015.
