M.L. Hart

M. L. Hart (Assistant Professor of Costume Design and Makeup, Western Washington University) is a graduate of Wayne State University where she received her MFA in Costume Design. During her graduate tenure she focused her studies on draping, costume crafts, printing/dyeing, and historical design. She has been working professionally in theatre since 1993 starting as a member of the wardrobe crew at Idaho Repertory Theatre.

In 1995, she was honored to be a part of the Montana Repertory Theatre's national tour of Broadway Bound and Smoke On The Mountain. After her education she moved around the United States working as a costumer with various companies including Soho HERE Arts Center as an assistant costume designer to her friend and mentor, Elizabeth Bourgeois, on the premiere work Orpheus, A Rock Opera.

Ms. Hart is an active member of the United States Institute of Theatre Technology as well as a participating member of the Northwest Professionals Conference Weekend hosted by the University of Montana. Some of her favorite designs include the premiere of the new play Corktown or Through the Valley of Dry Bones written by Jeff Augustin, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolored Dreamcoat for the Bigfork Summer Playhouse, Urinetown for Western Summer Theatre, and Suburbia for the University of Michigan-Flint. She would like to thank her family, friends, and shop staff for all of their help and support!
