A frank plática around the manifestation of Latina/o aesthetics in the American theatre. Does a distinct Latina/o aesthetic exist? Where does it come from and what does it look like? How does it shape the experience of Latina/o theatre artists in the US today? Are we moving toward a national movement of pan-Latinismo, or in a different direction altogether?
This panel will be a chance for us to interrogate what it means to call our art “Latina/o theatre” and to unpack how our art lands in our local communities and on main stages nationwide.
Panelists:
Dr. Brian Eugenio Herrera, Princeton University
Dr. Tiffany Ana López, University of California, Riverside
Dr. Chantal Rodriguez, The Latino Theater Company at the Los Angeles Theatre Center.
Moderated by Lydia G. Garcia
