SK Kerastas

SK Kerastas (they/them) is a social justice theatre artist, educator, and organizer. This past year they  finished a Visiting Artistic Associate position at Berkeley Repertory Theatre through Theatre Communication Group’s Leadership U: One-on-One Grant, Round 2. Also this past year they facilitated conversations, programming, and trainings around equity, inclusion, and social justice with APASO (Associate of Performing Arts Service Organizations), Theatre Communications Group, Cal Shakes/Berkeley Rep, Theatre Bay Area, American Conservatory Theater, artEquity, and the Oakland Museum of California. They co-conceived and facilitated Breaking the Binary, a symposium on building trans inclusive and centric theatre, hosted by Berkeley Rep and California Shakespeare Theatre and available to watch on HowlRound. They recently collaborated with Femme Science, CalShakes, and clients of Trans Health Services in San Francisco to devise SPIRIT MOVES, a performative healing ceremony combining elements of plant-based healing, alter-making, story-telling and movement. Before moving west, SK served as the Education Director at About Face Theatre in Chicago where they directed and managed the queer youth theatre program and all outreach programs with an intersectional focus.  They are an Executive Co-Chair of the Pride Youth Theatre Alliance and a member of the inaugural artEquity cohort. SK is currently co-organizing #breakingthebinary at American Repertory Theatre, an event that lifts up Tran POC theatre artists and holds radical dialogue around accessibility and systemic change in the American theater field.
