Studio Theatre presented Psalm's Salons at Studio livestreamed on the global, commons-based, peer produced HowlRound TV network at howlround.tv on Thursday 22 October at 2 p.m. PDT (San Francisco, UTC -7) / 4 p.m. CDT (Chicago, UTC -5) / 5 p.m. EDT (New York, UTC-4).
Join us for a virtual dance party with conversation hosted by theatre-maker Psalmayene 24 with live music from DJ Nick tha 1da.
Our guests are Mildred Ruiz-Sapp and Steven Sapp, cofounders of theatre company UNIVERSES. The Bronx-based collective includes writers and performers of color who blend disciplines—theatre, poetry, dance, jazz, hip-hop, politics—to create their own brand of performance and engage charged conversations through art. Now in the 25th year of UNIVERSES, Mildred and Steven reflect on what's changed, reform in American Theatre, where we go from here, and what their mantra—"The Revolution is LIVE and ONSTAGE"—means in this moment.
Psalmayene 24 is the Playwright-in-Residence at Mosaic Theater in Washington, DC and UNIVERSES are the Playwright-in-Residence at Long Wharf Theatre in New Haven, CT through the National Playwright Residency Program, funded by the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation. Find out more about Psalm's residency experience and UNIVERSES' residency experience, and learn about the impact of the program at large.
