B!RTH International presented B!RTH livestreamed on the global, commons-based peer-produced HowlRound TV network at howlround.tv on Thursday 4 October at 12 p.m. PDT (San Francisco) / 2 p.m. CDT (Chicago) / 3 p.m. EDT (New York) / 20:10 GMT+1 (London).

There will be an opportunity for audience members and livestream viewers to ask questions of the panel and ‘challenge the changemakers’ in a short Q&A session following the debate - follow @BirthDebate and #BirthDebate on Twitter to get involved.

Join us for an evening of powerful theatre and challenging debate as B!RTH comes to the Wellcome Collection, London.

B!RTH is a unique collaboration between science and theatre. Using a series of provocative plays and dynamic panel discussions, this global theatrical project aims to raise awareness and provoke debate around the vast inequality in maternal and newborn health across the world.

B!RTH showcases the power of theatre to ignite debate, galvanise action and encourage positive social change. Collaboration and partnership is a key part of developing effective health interventions at scale. B!RTH creates the context and provides a platform for these conversations to take place, and through public engagement, forces them under the spotlight.

The evening will include performances of two of the B!RTH plays, ‘Orchid’ by Mmbi Kaigwa, addressing the burden of obstetric fistula in Kenya, and ‘Q&Q’ by Liwaa Yazji, which focuses on the realities of pregnancy and childbirth through conflict. The performances will be followed by a panel discussion with Her Excellency Mrs Toyin Saraki, Founder and President of the Wellbeing Foundation Africa, Dr Benjamin Black from Medecins Sans Frontieres/Doctors Without Borders and Professor Nynke van den Broek, Director of the Centre for Maternal and Newborn Health at the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine.
