Bayan Shbib is a Palestinian actress, award-winning playwright, and doctoral researcher at Friedrich Schiller University, Germany, specializing in social psychology. Since 2006, she has served as an in-house artist, director, playwright, and drama trainer at Ashtar Theatre, Palestine’s leading institution for youth theatre. Shbib’s acclaimed performance in Safad-Shatila, Vice Versa earned her the Best Actress Award at the 2006 Cairo International Festival for Experimental Theatre. As a playwright, her works include Ventolin of Return and 2077: Who Wants to Survive, exploring themes of futurity and decolonial praxis. She also directed the 2014 revival of The Gaza Monologues, a poignant portrayal of youth voices from Gaza. Shbib’s academic research bridges theatre, narrative practice, and social psychology, focusing on identity, agency, and trauma. She has taught at Birzeit University, Al Kasaba Theatre Academy, and served as a cultural attaché at the Palestinian Embassy in Vienna.
