Desi P. Shelton is the Founding Artistic Director of the Camden Repertory Theater (CRT) located in Camden, New Jersey. She received her MFA in theater from Sarah Lawrence College and her BA from Northeastern University. Recently she completed the Woman and Power Program at Harvard University’s Kennedy School of Government. She has received the Valentine Foundation Award for female executives, and is a Dodge Emerging Leader. She also received a Leeway Transformation Award given to social change artists. As a playwright, Desi is most proud of increasing audience attendance by 200 percent and attracting first time theatergoers in the African American community. As an artist, Desi uses theater to improve life and literature skills to at-risk children. Desi lives in Camden, NJ with her husband and two children.
