Directing credits include; Tony Kushner’s Homebody/Kabul and The Intelligent Homosexuals Guide to Socialism and Capitalism with a Key to the Scriptures, Rajiv Joseph’s Describe the Night, Guards at the Taj and Gruesome Playground Injuries, Lisa D Amours Detroit, The Elaborate Entrance of Chad Deity by Kris Diaz (receiving nine Helen Hayes nominations), Sam Hunter’s A Bright New Boise, Peter Nachtrieb’s Boom. Direction and adaptation of DH Lawrence’s Lady Chatterley’s Lover, running both in LA and DC. He holds six best director nominations with the Helen Hayes Awards society. John directed the US Premiere of The Return for Mosaic Theater in DC.

The Wild Provocations of Poland's Divine Comedy Festival

The 2025 Divine Comedy festival theme was “Waiting for the Barbarians.” Representing the Center for International Theatre Development, John Vreeke attended and concluded that while barbarians were present in the disruptive plays, there were also beautiful moments of human connection and empathy.
