Judy Lea Steele

Passionately increasing the volume of women's voices in theatre, especially over 50, via non-patriarchal story shapes.

Judy is an actress and playwright whose frustration with the lack of stories by and about women over 50 has led her to writing them. She creates alternative structures that reflect the stories that she has lived and heard. Her current focus is the destruction and reconstruction of canonical, patriarchal stories, recreating them from a woman's point of view. Driven by the aural and visual senses, she explores methods of using those tools as text. As an actress she has extensive stage, commercial, new media and VO experience. In fall 2021 she will begin her MFAW in playwriting at the School of the Art Institute in Chicago. She is an alumna of Northwestern University with a BS in Speech/Theatre.
