Executive Artistic Director for City Lights Theater Company and mom.
Lisa Mallette is in her 15th season as executive artistic director at City Lights Theater Company in San Jose, California, where she served three years as managing director prior to that. She has led her company through more than a decade of artistic and administrative growth, which has included closing the past 15 years in the black. The Board Chair of Theatre Bay Area's board of directors, Mallette also chairs the Theatre Services Committee. She is a 2014 recipient of the Silicon Valley Creates Artist Laureate Award.
Under Mallette's leadership, City Lights has garnered major critical acclaim for its mainstage seasons, Lights & Music Concert Series, and New Play Lights Up Series. Seasons have featured numerous world premieres, including 2014's widely praised commission Truce: A Christmas Wish from the Great War, written by Kit Wilder and Jeffrey Bracco. This season will feature another world-premiere commission by Wilder: a new high-tech adaptation of Frankenstein. A commission by local playwright, Kirsten Brandt is in the works for the 19-20 Season.
A member of Actors' Equity Association and SAG/AFTRA, Mallette has worked for countless theater companies in the Western United States. She regularly directs and performs at City Lights, where her recent credits have included directing the world-premiere production of Spacebar: A Broadway Play by Kyle Sugarman; Amadeus; The Elephant Man; West Side Story; The Rocky Horror Show and Alabama Story.
A San Francisco native, Mallette is the mother of two beautiful daughters, Sophie and Olivia.
