Margaret O'Donnell

Margaret O'Donnell is an immigration attorney, immigrant activist, and playwright in Seattle, Washington.

Margaret O’Donnell's first play, Undocumented, was produced in Seattle and showcased in Burien, Washington in 2016. The Detention Lottery has been produced monthly in northwest Washington State since June 2018. Her four other plays -- On Cabin Creek, Detained, Deadline 2037, and Retreat, have been workshopped in Seattle with the Seattle Playwrights Studio and Seattle Playwrights Salon. She is currently at work on a drama about women's access to power. She is the co-founder, artistic director emeritus, and current blogger for Seattle Playwrights Salon, http://seattleplaywrightssalon.com/, a nonprofit playwrights’ center providing development and learning opportunities to Northwest playwrights. She practices immigration law in Seattle, and will be a first-year MFA in playwriting student at Hollins University in 2020. She writes to explore individual responsibility for the societies we create, the current of private emotion in public institutions, and the hidden forces shaping our conduct. She is particularly interested in how the lives of marginalized peoples -- immigrants, the old, the disabled, the poor-- intersect with the majority culture in the US.
