Mary Ann DeVlieg

Mary Ann DeVlieg is an independent consultant, and evaluator of international cultural collaboration projects for the European Commission's culture and science programmes, projects and foundations (recently team leader for evaluation of creativity funding in the MENA region). Since 2010 she has focused on protecting and defending the human rights of artists as a case worker for artists-at-risk, and was founder/chair of the EU working group, Arts-Rights-Justice. At freeDimensional (2013 - 2015), she was responsible for strategic organisational development and executive tasks, and has been helping steer the Arts-Rights-Justice Academy and Library at the University of Hildesheim (August 2017 - 2019). Secretary General of IETM (1994-2013), a 600-organisation/60-country strong professional network for contemporary performing arts. She founded or co-founded several funds, local development programmes and information resources for artists (among them www.on-the-move.org and Roberto Cimetta Fund for Mobility in the Mediterranean  cimettafund.org), constructs professional training courses, has seeded professional networks on various continents, served on Boards and expert groups,  and has been an active political lobbyist on behalf of the arts. In 2006 she was awarded the EU Individual Prize for services to artists mobility and in 2017 the Chevalier de l’Ordre des Arts et des Lettres from France. She holds and MA in European Cultural Policy and Management from Warwick University UK. She is currently a Board member of Highlight Arts (2016 -) http://highlightarts.org/about/ , Board member of Ettijahat-Independent Culture  http://www.ettijahat.org  and is a frequent speaker, conference moderator and group facilitator and a founder member of IARA, International Arts Rights Advisors.
