Playwright, producer, & Disability/Inclusion advocate for performing arts

Nicole Hughes (aka ‘Nico’ - she/her) is a Southern creative in Brooklyn, the founder of Glassable Productions & playwright of Graceland Too, a new play that premiered at NY Theatre Festival 2022. 

As an impact producer, Nico has worked on documentary film campaigns including Coded Bias on PBS/Netflix, and with Together Film on Hulu’s To The End, Netflix’s In Her Hands, and LIFT on Amazon Prime/AppleTV. 

Nico is an advocate for social justice, and inclusion in arts & education, & loves to create/foster caused-based communities. Her recent work includes producing Columbia Business School Executive Education Digital Health Programs, curating 20+ global museum exhibitions for an AI-equity non-profit, and supporting the impactful work of Lavender Rights Project. 

She is also very proud to be a founding team member of EpiArts Alliance and the FlashCue Project, projects of Design With Us that work to educate lighting designers on photosensitivity and inform photosensitive audiences of flashing theater lights.

A Community-Led Approach to Making Theatre Safer for Photosensitive Audiences

The potential for photosensitive reactions—like seizures or migraines—keeps some audiences out of theatres. Nicole Hughes discusses the work of EpiArts and the FlashCue Project to make theatre more accessible to these audience members by educating theatremakers about photosensitivity and providing clear standards for communicating about flashing light cues.
