Nisi Sturgis

From her early years, Nisi found her people in theatre. She works as Actor, Director, Adapter, Collaborator and is now honored to serve an Associate Professor of Acting for Illinois Theatre, University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. She has a BA from the University of Central Arkansas.  Going on to win the National KC-ACTF Irene Ryan award and a Williamstown Theatre scholarship, then earned her MFA in Acting at the Old Globe, and has acted professionally as an AEA and SAG member all over the country for over twenty years. Regionally she has worked at theatres including the Zach Theatre, Peterborough Players, Chautauqua Theatre Company, Denver Center, Old Globe, Shakespeare Theatre of NJ, Illinois Shakespeare Festival, St. Louis/New Orleans/Provincetown Tennessee Williams Festival, and toured in Disgraced at the Goodman, Seattle Rep, and Berkeley Rep, attending 152 talkbacks during the run. In New York, she’s appeared On and Off Broadway, as well as developing new plays and experimental works. Nisi spent five years as June Thompson on HBO’s Boardwalk Empire. LOVE & ART!
