Biography
Ruzibiza Wesley

Ruzibiza Wesley discovered contemporary dance and theatre through the Arts Azimuts
workshops at the University of Rwanda’s Centre Universitaire des Arts. Following this
discovery, he went on to lead the Centre’s artistic department. Dance Division for eight
years. A multidisciplinary artist – dancer, choreographer, actor, and director, he has
created and staged numerous dance and theatre productions performed worldwide at
leading festivals and international cultural events.
In 2007, he co-founded Amizero Dance Kompagnie, with which he won the silver medal
at the 6th Jeux de la Francophonie in Lebanon. In 2012, he founded and directed the East
African Nights of Tolerance (EANT) International Festival in Kigali, a major platform for
promoting and presenting East African artists, which he led until 2024. He is also
co-founded of L’Espace Plus , a creative lab, private theatre, and production studio
based in Kigali.
Wesley is a laureate and participant in prestigious artistic programmes, trainings, and
mentorships across Africa, Europe, and the United States, including the Young African
Achievers Award, the Sundance East Africa Directors’ Mentorship, Chrysalide Afrique, and
the Georgetown Laboratory of Arts and Politics, among others. From 2020 to 2025, he
co-directed L’École des Sables in Senegal, the continent’s leading choreographic school,
where he continues to serve as an associate professor. He is also an associate professor
and Co Director of the CPARC “Centre for Choreographic Research and Development
(Bordeaux), at Muda Africa dance school in Tanzania, and regularly teaches in renowned
institutions such as SUNY Purchase (New York), La MaMa Umbria (Italy), Orsolina 28
(Italy), as well as in numerous professional training centres and artistic development
programmes worldwide. Wesley has directed and created multiple performances both in
the African continent, Europe, North America and South America
