Scout Tufankjian is an Armenian-American documentary photographer.
Scout Tufankjian is an Armenian-American photographer best known for her work documenting both of Barack Obama's presidential campaigns and her 2008 NYT and LA Times bestselling book Yes We Can: Barack Obama’s History-Making Presidential Campaign. Her second book, There is Only the Earth: Images from the Armenian Diaspora Project, was the culmination of six years documenting Armenian communities in over 20 different countries. She had previously worked as a journalist in the Middle East, and has served as a consultant for RISC Training, the temporary acting director of Committee to Protect Journalists's Emergency Response Team, and the Senior Afghanistan Consultant for Too Young to Wed. She continues to work in documentary photography, with a special focus on long-term projects in Armenia and Artsakh. Other recent work includes a year as the documentary photographer for One Nation/One Project’s Arts for EveryBody campaign, and a collaboration with composer Mary Kouyoumdjian about the ethnic cleansing of Artsakh that premiered in May of 2024 at the New York Philharmonic.
