Stephanie Lein Walseth

Stephanie Lein Walseth is a Minnesota-based theatre scholar, artist, educator, and administrator whose work in the Twin Cities has included tenures with Penumbra Theatre Company (August Wilson Fellow, Summer Institute Coordinator and Instructor, and Education Programs Manager), Mu Performing Arts (Managing Director), and Mixed Blood Theatre (Interim Managing Director). She recently received her PhD in Theatre Historiography from the University of Minnesota after completing her doctoral thesis, “Staging Race in a ‘Post-Racial’ Age: Contemporary Collaborations Between Mainstream and Culturally Specific Theatres in the United States.” Her research interests include the cultural poetics and politics of Native American, African American, and Asian American theatre, as well as theatre historiography, cultural studies, performance ethnography, critical and feminist pedagogies, and theatre for social change. She just finished the academic year as an adjunct instructor in the theatre department at Augsburg College in Minneapolis, and is pleased to be back at Penumbra Theatre Company in her new role as Director of Inquiry.
