THERESA CHAVEZ is an award-winning Chicana interdisciplinary theater artist. She is the producing artistic director and co-founder of About...Productions theater company (www.aboutpd.org) based in the Greater L.A.-area which creates original theaterworks and educational programs that provoke new perspectives on history, humanity, and culture with a focus on unearthing and illuminating Latinx cultural histories of the Southwest, California, and Los Angeles.
THERESA CHAVEZ is an award-winning interdisciplinary theater artist whose work as writer, director and producer has been seen internationally, and on national television. Her work has focused on uncovering buried cultural histories, exploring notions of cultural identity and authenticity, and spirituality. Recent theaterworks she has co-created/directed/produced include Adobe Punk; Evangeline, the Queen of Make-Believe; By the Hand of the Father; L.A. Real; and They Shoot Mexicans, Don't They? She is co-founder and producing artistic director of About...Productions, now in its 37th year (www.aboutpd.org). Awards include Lee Melville Award for Outstanding Contribution to the L.A. Theatre Community. A published playwright, she is included in Women Playwrights of Diversity, which describes the work of 90 significant theater voices. She is a Chicana and 7th generation Californio. Trained as a dancer and musician, she earned a BFA and MFA in photography from CalArts, and an interdisciplinary social science BA from UCLA.
