Making production processes more accessible to Deaf staff, artists, and overhire folks.

Production Managers’ Forum (USA) Diversity and Inclusion Committee presented the panel discussion Backstage with Deaf Artists and Technicians livestreamed on the commons-based peer produced HowlRound TV network at howlround.tv on Friday 13 December 2019 at 11 a.m. PST (Los Angeles, UTC -8) / 12 p.m. MST (Denver, UTC -7) / 1 p.m. CST (Chicago, UTC -6) / 2 p.m. EST (New York, UTC -5) / 19:00 GMT (London, UTC +0).

A conversation between Deaf theatre artists and technicians to increase awareness of best practices among production staff of hearing theaters to make their production processes more accessible to Deaf staff, artists and overhire folks.

The panel of guests will feature:

  • Annie Wiegand, Lighting Designer

  • Kala Granger, Theatre Technician and Administrator

  • James “Joey” Caverly, Director and AEA Actor.

  • The conversation will be facilitated by Chris Robinson, Coordinator of Outreach and Training at Boston University and a Performing Arts ASL Interpreter.

About the organizers:

The Production Managers’ Forum (USA) is the network for Production Managers of LORT theatres, other non-profit theatre, dance, and opera companies and educational theatres in North America. The Diversity and Inclusion Committee of the Production Managers’ Forum (USA) meets monthly to discuss how we as leaders in our organizations can effect changes in equity, diversity and inclusion. We focus on creating inclusive workplaces, hiring more diversely, and providing education opportunities for the larger Production Managers’ Forum.
