Livestreaming the Panel: (Re)Imagine Civic Theater (ASL interpreted & live captioned)
A series by Seattle Rep that brings artists and community leaders together
Seattle Rep presents (Re)Imagine Civic Theater livestreaming on the global, commons-based, peer-produced HowlRound TV network at howlround.tv on Thursday 29 October 2020 at 5 p.m. PDT (Seattle, UTC-7) / 6 p.m. MDT (Denver, UTC-6) / 7 p.m. CDT (Chicago, UTC-5) / 8 p.m. EDT (New York, UTC-4).
(Re)Imagine Theater is a panel series that brings artists and community leaders together to envision a new theatrical world. Without constraints, what do we want theater to look like? We will highlight individuals and organizations who are working toward positive change, and discuss how artists and community can work together to craft our vision for the future of theater. But before any of that work can be done, we must know what we are working towards. We must be able to imagine the future to make it, and we hope that these conversations will challenge and inspire Seattle Rep and theaters across the nation.
Audience members will be welcome to add their ideas and vision to the conversation, in addition to a curated panel local to the Seattle area. Come imagine with us, think beyond and through barriers, and begin to manifest the future of theater.
Register to attend the Zoom call here.
The leading questions for these panel discussions are:
If you could wave a magic wand and build a new theater landscape, what would you create?
What does theater at the heart of public life look like?
“Our radical imagination is a tool for decolonization, for reclaiming our right to shape our lived reality.” ― Adrienne Maree Brown, Pleasure Activism: The Politics of Feeling Good
ASL interpreted and Live Captioned.
Thursday 29 October: (Re)Imagine Civic Theater
Co-facilitated by Angie Kamel, public works director at Seattle Rep
Seattle Rep’s vision is “Theater at the Heart of Public Life,” and an integral part of public life is civic involvement. With the presidential election, we are each a part of shaping what the future will be. How can theater be integrated into civic life, and civic practice be more integrally a part of theater? What is our vision for the future of our country, and how can theater be a part of that?
Panelists to be announced.
