Parenting, Care, and Cultural Mobility

On the Move presented their third Mobility Webinar: Parenting, Care, and Cultural Mobility, livestreaming on the global, commons-based, peer-produced HowlRound TV network on Tuesday 7 March 2023 at 9 a.m. EST (New York, UTC -5) / 15:00 CET (Brussels, UTC +1).

As part of its pluriannual program, co-funded by the European Union (EU), On the Move presents webinars to investigate collectively international artistic and cultural mobility, with the aim to build knowledge, encourage peer-to-peer exchange, and share lived experience.

For this third Mobility Webinar, On the Move will explore the tensions between cultural mobility and parental responsibility in the EU and internationally. Discussing how our ecosystem considers and manages parenthood, particularly for women, at the different stages of the creative value chain.

We aim to share more stories and information to highlight how structural limitations and lack of knowledge and awareness generate inequalities in accessing international work opportunities in the arts and cultural sector.

The aims of the webinar are to:

• Analyze the conditions proposed by cultural stakeholders to avoid reducing the international experience and exposure of parents and carers
• Identify the solutions from lived experiences and recent grassroots initiatives, to continue to collaborate transnationally, and benefit from fruitful mobility opportunities
• Contribute to outline recommendations to cultural operators and decision-makers for better cross-border cultural relations including for professional development, access to mobility information, and assistance tools.
