Selected for the Unlimited International Commissions for 2017/18, And Suddenly I Disappear: The Singapore ‘d’ Monologues is an international theatrical dialogue of difference, disability, and what it is to be human, from opposite sides of the world. Inspired by previously unrecorded lived experience, fictionalised monologues are presented across multiple languages (spoken/projected/visual), incorporating the aesthetics of access. This performance sets an important precedent: the first multilingual, intercultural, Deaf and disabled-led theatre project created between the U.K. and Singapore.
Award-winning playwright Kaite O’Reilly, and internationally respected director Phillip Zarrilli lead the team, joined by U.K. based performers Sara Beer, Sophie Stone and Ramesh Meyyappan. Principal Singaporean collaborator Peter Sau also performs, alongside Grace Khoo, Lee Lee Lim, Danial Bawthan, Stephanie Fam and Agnes Lim.
Commissioned and supported by Unlimited, celebrating the work of Deaf and disabled artists, with funding from Arts Council Wales and British Council.
