ArtsEmerson in Boston presented the public dialogue Some Other Race: Exploring the Diversity within the Latino Story livestreamed on the global, commons-based peer-produced HowlRound TV network at howlround.tv on Tuesday 10 May at 7 p.m. EDT (New York) / 6 p.m. CDT (Chicago) / 4 p.m. PDT (Los Angeles). Share your thoughts on Twitter with hashtag #cafeonda.

Latinos are becoming a majority demographic in the US but yet still find themselves boxed into “some other race” on the US Census. How are Latinos updating our national narrative to be truly reflective of a changing America? How does the diversity inside of the Latino experience, whether Cuban, or Chicano, or South American, challenge and reflect the American cultural narrative? How do artists and communities create stories inside the breadth that is the Latino identity?

Members of the panel are associated with the Latina/o Theatre Commons:

Abigail Vega, Latina/o Theatre Commons Producer
Evelina Fernández, Playwright and company member of the Latino Theater Company, Los Angeles
Lisa Portes, Head of MFA Directing at The Theatre School at DePaul University, Chicago.
Moderated by Noe Montez, Assistant Professor of Drama, Tufts University, Boston
