Aristide Tarnagda is a playwright, director, actor, and the artistic director of Les Récréâtrales Festival in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso. He trained at Jean-Pierre Guingané's Théâtre de la Fraternité, and participated in his first writing workshops at the Récréâtrales residency for writing, directing, and Pan-African theatre research. His writing is often enriched through giving voices to women, which has earned him the attention of important international directors, including Eva Doumbia, Alexandre Koutchevsky, and Marie-Pierre Bésanger, who have all staged his plays. In 2013, he directed his own play And if I was going to kill them all Ma'am? on a mainstage at the Avignon Theatre Festival, while another of his plays, Red Earth was included in the Off- Festival. In 2016, his play Sank, or The Patience of the Dead was included in the Radio France International's world theatre reading series at the Avignon Theatre Festival, before being produced in Belgium. The publication of two plays, Terre rouge and Façons d'aimer won the 2018 grand prize by the Association of Writers of the French Language for best African literary work. The latter play was translated into English by Heather Jeanne Denyer as Ways of Loving and presented as a reading at the Martin E. Segal Theatre for the 2018 PEN World Voices Festival.

Le dramaturge, comédien et metteur-en-scène Aristide Tarnagda est formé au sein du Théâtre de la Fraternité de Jean-Pierre Guingané. Il suit ses premiers ateliers d'écriture lors des Récréâtrales, résidences d'écriture, de création et de recherche théâtrales panafricaines. Il déploie une écriture foisonnante en donnant souvent la parole aux femmes, attirant ainsi l'attention de metteur/es en scène qui porteront ses pièces à la scène, notamment Eva Doumbia, Alexandre Koutchevsky et Marie-Pierre Bésanger. En 2013, sa pièce Et si je les tuais tous madame ? est présentée au festival In d'Avignon dans sa propre mise en scène, tandis qu'une autre pièce Terre rouge est, elle, à l'affiche dans le Off. En 2016, sa pièce Sank ou La patience des morts est mise en lecture à Avignon par RFI puis créée en Belgique. Cette année, il est également devenu le directeur artistique des Récréâtrales, l'un des plus grands festivals panafricains de spectacles vivants, basé à Ouagadougou. La publication de deux textes, sous le titre Terre rouge a été honoré du grand prix littéraire de l'Afrique noire en 2018 par l'Association des écrivains de la langue française. La pièce Faons d'aimer a été traduit en anglais par Heather Jeanne Denyer pour une lecture au Centre Martin E. Segal à New York à l'occasion du Festival de PEN World Voices 2018.
