Marissa Chibas is a writer, performer, filmmaker and recipient of the TCG Fox Fellowship in Distinguished Achievement.  Her solo show Daughter of a Cuban Revolutionary, which premiered at REDCAT and was produced by the CalArts Center for New Performance (CNP), has toured the U.S., Europe, and Mexico.  Marissa has acted in over 50 productions, including The Keening by Umberto Dorado at the ART in Boston, Two Sisters and a Piano by Nilo Cruz at the McCarter, The Mark Taper Forum productions of The House of Bernarda Alba and Eduardo Machado’s The Floating Island Plays and Robert Wilson’s Danton’s Death at the Alley Theater.  On Broadway she performed in Abe Lincoln in Illinois and Brighton Beach Memoirs, as well as off Broadway and many prominent resident Theaters. Her silent film/performance piece, Clara’s Los Angeles, was presented at REDCAT’s NOW festival and the San Diego Latino Film Festival. Marissa is on the Theater School faculty at CalArts where she heads the initiative Duende Calarts, part of CNP, that collaborates with innovative Latinx and Latin American artists to make adventurous performance.  For Duende she conceived and wrote Shelter, which premiered in April 2016 at Lincoln Park and was presented at the Kennedy Center. Shelter was published by NoPassport Press and her solo play is included in the Routledge Press second edition of Contemporary Plays by Women of Color.  Marissa co-adapted the award winning CNP/Poor Dog Group production of Brewsie and Willie that was presented at the 2011 RADAR Festival and played Edgar in CNP’s inaugural production of King Lear at the Brewery in Downtown Los Angeles.  She wrote and performed in The Second Woman in 2016 at the Bootleg Theater in LA.  In April 2017 she co-created and performed in a video installation at Fabrica de Arte in La Habana Cuba, Nostalgia, in collaboration with Cuban visual artist Aissa Santiso which also presented at Plaza de la Raza in Los Angeles.  Her latest short film Zohra was selected for the 2018 Women’s Only Entertainment Film Festival, won the Women Filmmakers and Best Actress awards for the Best Shorts Film Festival and was screened at the Echo Park Film Center.  Marissa is currently working on Way of Wolf, a husband and wife corporate motivational speakers team meets Who’s Afraid of Virginia Wolf, with Cirque du Soleil clown Daniel Passer that will workshop this summer at Teatr Studio in Warsaw, Poland.
