Sumit Lai Roy is the founder member of The Red Curtain International, an amateur theater group that aspires to professional standards doing 'good theater for good causes'
Sumit Lai Roy has been doing theatre in English since 1969.
Founder member of Kolkata’s oldest amateur English Theatre Group, The Red Curtain, Sumit has been involved in almost every aspect of theatre: prompting, stage management, lights design, set design, acting, directing, producing… The Red Curtain does good theatre for good causes.
He runs theatre workshops for upcoming theatre groups and dedicates his spare time to growing people who wish to grow in theatre.
The Roy in the well-known Lai Roy productions, he is married to Katy Lai Roy. The Lai Roys have created a reputation for putting together some of Kolkata’s best remembered professionally mounted musicals, performed by schools. Including MBWA’s production of “Lion King” and Akshar’s production of “Hunchback of Notre Dame” directed by their daughter, Dana Roy. Recently (Nov 2017) the Lai Roy team also put together “Pink Floyd’s The Wall” for St. James’ School, which was directed by Sumit Lai Roy.
Professionally, Sumit runs the world’s smallest learn-by-earning university of brand building: www.univbrands.com. His clients are spread across the Americas, Europe, Africa, Asia and Australia. For his live workshops he mixes theatre workshop techniques with his experience of over 40 years in brand communication to grow people who grow brands.
