Atlanta-based Alternate ROOTS hosted a community conversation with Rocco Landesman, Chairman of the National Endowment for the Arts, during his first visit to the state, livestreamed on the global, commons-based peer-produced HowlRound TV network at howlround.tv on Wednesday 9 May 2012 at 7 a.m. PDT / 8 a.m. MDT / 9 a.m. CDT / 10 a.m. EDT / 14:00 GMT / 3 p.m. BST / 4 p.m. CEST.

The event was presented in partnership with Georgia Council for the Arts.

Alternate ROOTS, a nationally recognized, award-winning arts organization, has a regional focus and provides programs and services for a network of more than 350 artists in the South. Alternate ROOTS executive director, Carlton Turner, will facilitate the hour-long conversation with Mr. Landesman. "We are excited to co-host this event with Georgia Council for the Arts," says Mr. Turner.

The National Endowment for the Arts is one of the most effective federal agencies and has provided support to arts organizations of all sizes. We are a grateful recipient of their support. The impact of their grants upon a small arts organization like ROOTS is enormous."The National Endowment for the Arts, an independent agency of the federal government, provides direct support for artists and arts organizations by funding projects and programs that bring arts to all Americans. During the past year, Mr. Landesman has explored the role of artists in creative place making by visiting various communities and talking with arts leaders. While in Atlanta he will meet with individual artists and other representatives of the arts industry to further this discussion. The community conversation is an opportunity for artists to hear from the head of the nation's arts agency, including his vision about the role of artists in local communities.
