Panel Discussion: The Illusion of Power and the Power of Illusion: Viewing Media Through an Artistic Lens

British Council USA Arts presented The Illusion of Power and the Power of Illusion: Viewing Media Through an Artistic Lens, livestreamed on the global, commons-based peer-produced HowlRound TV network at howlround.tv on Thursday 3 October 2013 at 3 p.m. PDT / 5 p.m. CDT / 6 p.m. EDT / 22:00 GMT / 11 p.m. BST.

The British Council Director of Arts, Graham Sheffield CBE, will host the panel discussion at Park Avenue Armory on the issues explored in the US premiere of Massive Attack v Adam Curtis, a site-specific music and film piece which will run at Park Avenue Armory, New York from 28 September to 4 October 2013.

  Panelists will include:

• Contemporary philosopher Simon Critchley, who presents the highly-acclaimed On Truth and Lies series of talks at the Brooklyn Academy of Music
• Joyce Barnathan, president of the International Center for Journalists, a non-profit organization dedicated to advancing quality journalism worldwide
• Alexis Goldstein, contributor to The Nation, the Washington Post and The American Prospect and Occupy Wall Street campaigner

The discussion will revolve around the broad issues explored in the production, as well as the role of arts in challenging public thought.
