CAATA Conversations
Legacy. Resistance. Evolution.
As the Consortium of Asian American Theaters and Artists (CAATA) marks its twentieth anniversary in 2026, we reflect on the power of community, the strength of our shared history, and the transformative possibilities of theatre. Founded in 2006 with a mission to advance Asian American theatre through a national network of artists and organizations, CAATA has grown into a vibrant, inclusive, and equitable cultural community for artists who identify as Asian American, Native Hawaiian, Pacific Islander (AANHPI), Southwest Asian, North African (SWANA), Middle Eastern North African (MENA), and mixed-race diasporas. Today, we continue to serve as a vital network where culture, identity, and justice converge. Our twentieth anniversary is a time to honor where we have been, celebrate where we are, and imagine what we can achieve together. It is a moment for reflection, joy, resistance, and evolution that celebrates the resilience of our community while looking boldly toward the future.
Over the past few years, CAATA has been proud to bring communities together virtually through our online series. In 2020, Return to the Source offered a space to reconnect, reflect, and celebrate our shared roots. In 2021, Healing Over Hate created conversations and practices aimed at cultivating understanding, resilience, and community care. These series reflect CAATA’s ongoing commitment to fostering connection, dialogue, and artistic expression even from a distance.
In 2026, our virtual series CAATA Conversations, part of our Legacy. Resistance. Evolution. programming, honors CAATA’s twentieth year milestone by celebrating our founders, showcasing the brilliance of current members, and engaging in topics that build a stronger future for AANHPI/SWANA/MENA and mixed race theatre. Through curated conversations and artistic showcases, CAATA Conversations fosters dialogue, connection, and creative innovation, ensuring that CAATA remains a vital and vibrant cultural community for decades to come.
