Shape the Future of the World Theatre Map / Crea el futuro del Mapa Mundial de Teatro

HowlRound has developed and is launching The World Theatre Map in collaboration with the Global Theater Initiative, a partnership between Theatre Communications Group and the Laboratory for Global Performance and Politics. 

The World Theatre Map is a crowd-sourced directory and real-time map of the global theatre community. 

The World Theatre Map is a crowd-sourced directory and real-time map of the global theatre community. It aims to make the field visible to itself by providing a collectively-owned, people-powered infrastructure to connect isolated theatremakers and organizations to vital information, resources, research, and learning to further their practice and participation in theatre—both locally and globally. The first version of the Map is in English and Spanish.

We are calling on theatremakers and organizations to join us in building this resource and helping all of us to connect to the world-wide theatre community. Guided by the principles of the commons, this project is a work-in-progress, and future versions of the website will be shaped and managed by the feedback of participants and organizations who are using it.

The overall goal of this six-month public beta period (through June 2017) is to discover and uncover an urgent need or challenge that the global theatre community is facing—and that this community-driven model of internet project could be best suited address.

We want to collaborate with you! Here are some ways to participate:

1. Enter information about yourself as well as about any people or organizations that you are knowledgeable of. (Anyone is permitted to edit and add information about anyone.)
2. Add show event information from the past, the present, and the future.
3. Search the directory to discover and connect to organizations, people, shows, and events.
4. Share World Theatre Map profiles via Twitter and Facebook. Spread the word about this project!
5. And most importantly, post comments in the user-forum about new ideas about how an online resource like the World Theatre Map can best serve urgent needs that you have.

Su objetivo es hacer visible el campo teatral a sí mismo ofreciendo una infraestructura de propiedad colectiva impulsada por sus usuarios. La información servirá para conectar artistas, teatros y organizaciones aisladas y suplir información, recursos, investigaciónes y conocimiento vital para promover su práctica y participación en teatro—tanto a nivel local como mundial. La primera versión del mapa existe en inglés y en español.

Estamos convocando a los teatristas y a las organizaciones de teatro a unirse a nosotros en la construcción de este recurso y, por ende, ayudar a conectarnos con nuestra comunidad mundial. Impulsado por los principios de la autoformación colectiva y del compartir los bienes comunes, este proyecto es un trabajo en proceso, y las versiones de la página web a futuro serán formadas y modificadas según los comentarios de los participantes y las organizaciones que la utilizen.

El objetivo general de esta fase beta, abierta al público durante seis meses (hasta junio del 2017), es descubrir cuál es la necesidad o reto más importante enfrentando a la comunidad teatral alrededor del mundo—y que este modelo comunitario de proyecto de internet sea la manera más adecuada de confrontarlo.

5. Y lo más importante, publica comentarios en el foro de usuarios con tus ideas de cómo un recurso en línea como el Mapa Mundial de Teatro puede servir mejor y satisfacer las necesidades urgentes a los retos existentes.
