Giovanni Enrico Morassutti

Giovanni Enrico Morassutti is an Italian actor, artist, director, writer, and cultural entrepreneur graduate of the Experimental Film Centre of Rome directed by Giancarlo Giannini. He is best known for having deepened the study of the realistic school of acting and as the founder of Art Aia- Creatives/ In/ Residence, encouraging artistic production and research, especially towards Sustainability in the Arts and Climate Change Theatre.

Son of a German mother and Italian father, Giovanni Morassutti , in full Giovanni Enrico Morassutti, is an actor, director, writer, artist and cultural entrepreneur graduate of the Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia directed by Giancarlo Giannini.
He studied acting and directing since he was a teenager approaching the work of the realistic school first with Susan Strasberg, then as an auditor at the Actors Studio in New York, as a student of Salem Ludwig at the HB studio and then with John Strasberg, becoming his a long time student and collaborator.
He wrote the preface of the Italian version of his book Per scelta, Per caso Oltre l’Actors Studio published by Dino Audino in 2016.
While living and studying in America, Giovanni worked with Ellen Stewart founder of La Mama e.t.c. , Ted Mornel, Kathleen M. Wilce, and Gus Van Sant. In Italy, after graduating from the Italian National Film School in Rome, he was cast in several roles in theatre and film productions working with Fabio Jephcott, Roberto Faenza, Cinzia Th Torrini, Andrea Manni, Stefano Usardi, Matteo Corazza, Lidia Biondi, Harris Freedman, Riccardo Milani among others.
His film credits include I Viceré , Poe Poetry of Eerie, Affittasi Vita, A Holy Venetian Family, Luigo, Il Mio giorno, The Fugitive, Delitto e Castigo and many others.
He played the same characted, only younger, played by Giancarlo Giannini in prime time Il maresciallo Rocca e l’amico d’infanzia.
In Theatre he directed Sola in casa by Dino Buzzati starring Lydia Biondi and presented at the Cherry Lane Theatre in New York in 2012 and the theatre production of Madre sin Panuelo by Jorge Palant sponsored by the Argentian Embassy and presented in Rome and Milan in the fall of 2015.
In Berlin, he was cast among other projects, in For the time being directed by Daniela Lucato that was presented at the 71st edition of the Cannes Film Festival.
Morassutti is a contributing artist of the Transversal Theater Company having performed both male leads in Railroad, winner of the Tor Vergata Award at the 28th Annual Festival Internazionale del Teatro Patologico directed by Dario D’Ambrosi in 2020 and he is part of the team of The Lonely Child, collaborating with filmmakers, producers and musicians .
As a film actor has won the The Empty Space Film Festival award for Best Supporting Actor in Lola and he has competed for the David di Donatello award in 2021 for his role in Affittasi Vita directed by Stefano Usardi.
He is currently working on the post-production of his first documentary film Personal Dream Space.
Giovanni Morassutti is the artistic director and founder of Art Aia- Creatives In Residence which is a cultural center, an international art residency, located inside a farm in the Friulian countryside of Northern Italy. Art Aia pursues exclusively cultural and artistic activities, guided by the idea that art can help to overcome the limitations and barriers place to communication still today therefore it promotes artistic production and research focusing on the development of the creative process and facilitating cultural exchange across borders.
Several international teaching artists like John Strasberg and Italo-Palestinian artist Mustafa Sabbagh have been hosted in the structure as well as artist collectives like Marsala 11, the Institut für Alles Mögliche of Berlin and members of The Arts Territory exchange in 2018 that have been supported in the development of their work with exhibitions and open studios.
In 2015 Giovanni opened a space in Berlin, Germany , Art Aia – La Dolce Berlin , an alternative location for contemporary art, culture, authentic Italian food sharing many crossovers with the Italian headquarters including a facilitation of cultural activities and an interest in cultural research and artistic experimentation.
Several artists and artist collectives have been hosted in the Berlin affiliation space including Wyatt Mills (USA), Roger Thorp (UK) and Kaoru Shibuta (Japan).
In 2021, he directed the play ''When'' written by Wren Brian as part of Climate Change Theatre Action 2021 that Morassutti disseminates in Italy, having organized the interdisciplinary event ''Climate Change Theatre Action sul Tagliamento" and collaborating, as the founder of Art Aia - Creatives In Residence, with several partners including Legambiente and the Regional Environmental Protection Agency.
The production of ''When'' has received a special mention from the Ca' Foscari University of Venice in the competition ''Climate ChanCe'' .
In 2022 Morassutti was invited as a speaker to illustrate his project of sustainability in the arts against climate change at the International Conference on Opportunities in the Arts ''Create the Future'' organized by the TransCultural Exchange at the Colleges of the Fenway in Boston.
In 2023 Morassutti became the Italian spokesperson of Climate Change Theatre Action organizing an interdisciplinary event at the Venice Lido where he staged the play "Mirror Mirror" written by Camila Le-Bert. The play was presented in collaboration with activists from the WWF (World Wide Fund for Nature) and the nonviolent environmental movement Extinction Rebellion (XR).
