Jacob Watson is an artist, educator, and facilitator with roots in Chicago and Boston. He directs participatory, site-based, and devised performances that center on social and civic questions. Jacob most recently worked as Animateur with the Lyric Opera of Chicago, transforming the real stories of community groups into original works of musical performance. He also co-conceived and directed Gray Area: a new play about consent, for the FYI Performance Company, of which he is a founding member. His work has appeared in theaters across Chicago, as well as in homes, churches, and schools. His theatrical designs have been called “deliciously immersive,” capturing “bleak simplicity” as well as “otherworldly beauty.” Currently, he is collaborating with Tellin’ Tales Theatre to develop Always Greener, a new musical that seeks to redefine disability. Jacob holds an Ed.M. in Arts in Education from Harvard University and a B.A. in Theatre from Northwestern University.
