Ty Defoe, (Giizhig), Oneida/Ojibwe Nations. An interdisciplinary artist and shape-shifter. Grammy award and Jonathan Larson award winner, and Robert Rauschenberg artist in residence. A TCG Fellow alum, artEquity Facilitator, East Coast Two Spirit Society Member, and co-founder of Indigenous Direction (w/ Larissa FastHorse). A Kalihwisaks, HowlRound, and Pitkin Review contributor. Authors of plays/musicals including: Drum is Thunder, Flute is the Wind (w/ Kevin Locke), writer and co-creator/director of Ajijaak on Turtle Island, (LaMaMa, NYC w/ collaborator Heather Henson). Book and Lyrics on, Clouds Are Pillows for the Moon (w/ main collaborator/composer Tidtaya Sinutoke, ASCAP Musical Theatre Workshop, 2015 Kilroy’s honorable mention list, Yale Institute of Musical Theater), Tick-Tick (Prospect Theatre’s Musical Theatre Lab), In the Cards (Boston Contempo-International Festival). Concerts: Joe’s Pub, Songbook at Lincoln Center, Symphony Space, 54 Below, Goodspeed Opera House, Dramatist Guild National Conference, NAMT Songwriters Cabaret, and the Johnny Mercer Songwriting project. Current Projects include: Hart Island Requiem (with The Civilians R&D Group), Sunrise Prayer (w/ collaborators Mary Kathryn Nagle and Tidtaya Sinutoke at Goodspeed Musicals), The Way They Lived (The Met Museum w/ Micharne Clougey and The Civilans). Ty draws inspiration from his favorite color, clear.  Guest star on Netflix: Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, Public Theater’s Studio, MJ Kaufman’s Masculinity Max (directed by Dustin Wills) and currently, Ty's Broadway debut will be in Young Jean Lee’s, Straight White Men (directed by Anna Shapiro) opening this summer.
