Friday Phone Call # 15

Josh Kornbluth

Josh Kornbluth and I have made a bunch of pieces together over the past fifteen plus years. He’s created 10 monologues and made four films based on them—all of them autobiographical. I wanted him to talk with me about Spalding Gray, who was the person most directly responsible for Josh getting up on stage and telling stories. Though the styles are as different, in the end, as the men are one from the other, there are deep resonances still in Josh’s work that come from his first encounter with Spalding thirty years ago. We talk about authenticity in the relationship with the audience, about irony, about the power of failure, and even about the Golden State Warriors.
