Friday Phone Call # 16
Peter Marks of the Washington Post
As part of our “Critics’ Week” series on HowlRound, I spoke to Washington Post Theater Critic Peter Marks, also known on Twitter as @petermarksdrama. Peter’s been a very lively and active conversant on Twitter, especially with the #newplay and #2amt community, with DC theater artists, and with his regular tweet-ups with Howard Sherman that are found at #pmdhes. (There is one with Tina Landau from Thursday, March 29 that you should scroll through). I have really enjoyed the way that Peter jumped into the uncharted waters of “critic in the Tweet house”—embracing the technology and the people he found there right from the beginning. It’s having a big impact on him, on DC Theater, and in some ways on the relationship between a critic and the community they are covering. Take a listen to how he’s thinking about all of this stuff and where it’s all heading. And if you are interested in the Washington Post story we are talking about (a major piece of coverage of the local theater community) it is here. Be sure and follow the related links, as the coverage was multiple articles and a significant amount of online content.
Please note: my last day at Arena Stage is March 30th so that e-mail address will be going away very shortly. Please look for me at my HowlRound addresses while I get myself set up in my new gig as the Director of Artistic Programming at ArtsEmerson in Boston.
Listen to weekly podcasts hosted by David Dower as he interviews theater artists from around the country to highlight #newplay bright spots. You can subscribe to the series via iTunes or this RSS Feed (for Android phones).
