A practical "how to" roundtable comparing institutional performing arts archives to the creation of new artist-driven archives.

LGBTQ+ Artists Archive Project and the American Theatre Archive Project will present the conversation, Archiving the Living Interdisciplinary Performing Artist, livestreaming on this page.

A practical conversation with performing artists and performing arts archivists about the benefits and challenges of saving records of the process and product of live performance. Panelists will share case studies from both established institutional archives and currently developing individual artist-driven archives. 

Panelists Include:

  • Mia Yoo (artistic director at La Mama ETC)
  • Kylie Goetz (head archivist/director of digital collections at La Mama Archive)
  • John Kelly (performing artist and participant at LGBTQ+ Artists Archive Project)
  • Tanisha Jones (archivist and curator at New York Public Library for the Performing Arts)
  • Moderated by Ken Cerniglia (dramaturg and co-founder of American Theatre Archive Project)

This roundtable is for anyone who contributes to and utilizes performing arts archives and is committed to the preservation of records of live performance as an essential part of our cultural history. 

This event is co-hosted by:

  • LGBTQ+ Artists Archive Project is an initiative led by 11 LGBTQ+ downtown NYC artists who have had an indelible impact on NYC and the national culture over the past 50+ years.
  • American Theatre Archive Project (ATAP) supports theatre makers in archiving records of their work for the benefit of artists, scholars, patrons, and the public.
  • American Society for Theatre Research (ASTR) is a U.S.-based professional organization that fosters scholarship on worldwide theatre and performance, both historical and contemporary.
  • Literary Managers and Dramaturgs of the Americas (LMDA) is a member-service organization for the professions of literary management and dramaturgy, with over 500 members throughout North America and abroad.
