Antoine Hunter presents #DeafWoke with John Autry II livestreaming on the commons-based, peer-produced HowlRound TV network at howlround.tv Friday 20 May 2022 at 5 p.m. PDT (San Francisco, UTC -7) / 7 p.m. CDT (Chicago, UTC -5) / 8 p.m. EDT (New York, UTC -4).

Join us for an animated evening with Deaf actor John Autry II. John will share his #DeafWoke story.

#DeafWoke is a virtual consciousness-raising engaging online talk show, led by Black and Indigenous Deaf host Mr. Antoine Hunter PurpleFireCrow.
Founded as a response to isolation and misinformation experienced during COVID-19, #DeafWoke provides access to the Deaf BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, people of color) life stories, critical coverage of the #BlackLivesMatter movement, education, arts, social justice, and analysis of COVID-19-related news for Deaf, DeafBlind, DeafDisabled, Hard of Hearing, Late-Deafened, and Black Hearing communities.

Our mission is to provide opportunities for our stories to be heard by providing the #DeafWoke platform to uplift BIPOC Deaf and disabled artists voices and to contribute to the arts and larger society, increasing awareness at the intersections of audism, ableism, and racism. This includes DeafDisabled stories as a force for cultural change and collective liberation. There is also a space to talk about economics, parenthood, and education.

All episodes will be produced with ASL interpreters and captioning, welcoming everyone to the conversation. For da Hearing and Deaf! It’s inspiring, it’s funny, it’s beautiful with the ugly, it’s things people don’t really talk about, it’s unheard of, it's Deaf Woke!

The Guest
Los Angeles-born John Autry II got his first experience acting in a Pampers commercial at just five months old. As he grew, he studied and worked on his craft at "No Limits," an acting company for deaf and hard of hearing children. With this group, John appeared in over twenty-five stage productions.
Truly believing there’s no limits to what he can do, John then went on to work in television, starring as Derek in the MTV pilot Katrina. In 2009, John gained attention for his appearances on Glee, which culminated in an ASL and vocal performance of John Lennon’s "Imagine," along with choir and the cast. John’s television work also includes a role opposite Brad Garrett in Til Death Do Us Part, and a guest star role on No Ordinary Family with Michael Chiklas. Web work includes the series FAIL, I Hear You, Netflix's American Vandal, and comedic work with Funny or Die. Never one to avoid a challenge, in 2015 John played the lead voice role of Leonard the cat in the independent comedy film Chatty Catties. John’s most recent work is a guest star on Fox’s hit animated television series The Simpsons. John Autry II is represented by Kylie Mackenzie at Artistic Talent.
