CultureHub presented a performance of Odes for a World in Search of Joy livestreaming on the global, commons-based, peer-produced HowlRound TV network at howlround.tv on Saturday 1 May 2021 at 5 p.m. PDT (San Francisco, UTC -7) / 7 p.m. CDT (Chicago, UTC -5) / 8 p.m. EDT (New York, UTC -4).

Inspired by Pablo Neruda’s Odes to Common Things, Amphibian Stage has commissioned Texas artists of all disciplines to create performance works that celebrate simple, human-made objects. We might take these things for granted in our day-to-day lives, but upon closer examination they can inspire joy, gratitude, and perhaps even awe. Join us for an evening of music, movement, animation, and more as we rediscover the beauty of not-so-ordinary trinkets, baubles, and tools.

Artists include: Ruben Carrazana with “What’s In the Box?”; Jay Duffer with “Salt”; Rafael Esquer with “A Crazy Love of Things”; Jonathan Fielding & Brenda Withers with “Spec-Ulation”; Charles Jackson with “Captain Iron”; Sarah Mosher & Alex Holliday with “Jewel: Bearing Witness From the Table”; Kristine O’Brien with “Pulp”; Illana Stein with “Ode to Possibilities”; Evan Michael Woods with “Whisked Away.”
