The Trojan Women Project is the culmination of five years’ international exchange between The Trojan Women Project and artists in Guatemala, Cambodia, and Kosovo. The Trojan Women Project is a La MaMa program that has been sending artists from the Great Jones Rep to communities where there is recent or ongoing conflict to work with actors and musicians in re-creating the music and staging of La MaMa's version of The Trojan Women.

The Project has at its core two timeless works of theater - Euripides’ 2500-year-old play The Trojan Women, with its themes of war, displacement, violence against women and children, and genocide; and La MaMa’s The Trojan Women, originally directed by Andrei Serban, composed by Elizabeth Swados, performed by the Great Jones Rep and presented by theater legend Ellen Stewart in 1974.
