Behind the Music-al at Dramatist Guild

Tuesday 28 October 2014

The Dramatists Guild of America presented the conversation Behind the Music-al livestreamed on the global, commons-based peer-produced HowlRound TV network at howlround.tv on Tuesday 28 October 2014.

Behind the Music-al gets your funny bones shaking with laughter as we host a conversation with songwriters Michael Kooman & Christopher Dimond, Masi Asare, and Kyle Ewalt & Michael Ian Walker, moderated by Tony Award-winning composer/lyricist Mark Hollmann, about the role of comedy songs in contemporary musical theatre. How are emerging composers using the grand tradition of comedy in musical theatre to tell new stories? How hard is it to be funny and still tell a story in song, especially in an age of YouTube clips and sound bites?
