The Neighbors present Being/Scene, a convergence on the work and practice of theatremaker, playwright, and teacher Steve Wangh. Celebrating the twenty-fifth anniversary of his seminal book An Acrobat of the Heart, the day-long conference included readings of three of his works from the last three decades, a panel discussion with Wangh's colleagues, theatre practitioners, and scholars, and a conversation with Wangh personally, followed by a reception. The event was held at Gracemoon Arts Company and Theatre at 13 Grattan St, Brooklyn, NY, 11206.

The event featured readings of three of Wangh's plays, a panel discussion entitled "Here We Are: Producing Experimental Theatre in 2025," and a workshop presented by Steve Wangh himself. The programming was followed by an open wine bar reception. The event was presented worldwide through a partnership with HowlRound Theatre Commons, who streamed the programming for free.

The three plays represent writing from throughout Steve's career so far. The Audience was directed by Kenny Finkle, performed by Wangh and Rosemary Quinn. The Exit Interview was directed by Federica Borlenghi and feature Maria Müller, Rupert Fennessy, and Jake Innerst. Waking Up, directed by the Gracemoon Arts Theatre ensemble, featured performers Augustus Oicle and Krista Morin. The Neighbors' co-artistic directors James Clements and Sam Hood Adrain then moderated "Here We Are," a panel discussion on the state of the field today, featuring Michèle Lonsdale Smith (artistic director, Gracemoon Arts Theatre), Melissa Moschitto (artistic director, The Anthropologists) and India Shanelle (project manager, IndieSpace). Lastly, Wangh presented a lecture and workshop for participants using his signature theatremaking pedagogy.

All profits benefited War Child, a global charity that works to protect, educate and stand up for the rights of children living through conflict and go to the hardest to reach places to support them.

Watch the livestream free on this page. Tickets for the in-person conference are available at the Neighbors' website.
