The Theatre Arts and Latin American and Latinx Studies Programs at the University of Pennsylvania and Interdram, the Theatrical Platform for New Playwriting, presented the first of two Conversations on Playwriting and Social Unrest in Chile livestreamed on the global, commons-based, peer produced HowlRound TV network at howlround.tv on Friday 25 September 2020 at 9 a.m. PDT (San Francisco, UTC -7) / 12 p.m. EDT (New York, UTC-4) / 1 p.m. CLST (Santiago, UTC -3).
On Friday, September 25, we will discuss Chile’s exciting feminist vanguard and the performance of gender in Chilean theatre with playwrights Nona Fernández, Flavia Radrigán, and Cristián Ruiz.
The event will be moderated by Leonardo González (University of Houston) and Jennifer Joan Thompson (University of Pennsylvania). Translation Bruce Gibbons.
In these two virtual English-language roundtables with some of Chile’s most innovative playwrights, we discuss how theatre is responding to the social, environmental, and public health crises confronting Chile. The events are an extension of the “Interdram Interviews” project, a series of interviews with renowned playwrights working with urgent themes and innovative formats in Chile today. The interviews have been published bimonthly in English and Spanish, alongside translated extracts of the playwrights’ works, on the Interdram website. The project aims to introduce Chilean playwrights to an English-speaking audience and is supported by a 2020 Fondart.
