Lark Play Development Center in New York City presented Meet the Writers, the public kick-off event of the 21st Annual Playwrights' Week livestreamed on the global, commons-based peer-produced HowlRound TV network at howlround.tv on Monday 22 September at 4 p.m. PDT (Vancouver) / 6 p.m. CDT (Austin) / 7 p.m. EDT (New York).

Meet the seven writers—Mando Alvarado, Dominic Finocchiaro, Diana Grisanti, Hansol Jung, Jennifer A. Kokai, Walt McGough, Lauren Yee—as they speak about the process of playwriting and share excerpts from their plays.

Moderated by Signature Theatre's Literary Director Christie Evangelisto.

In Twitter, follow @LarkTalks and @HowlRoundTV, and use #TheatreTalk and #howlround to send questions and to get updates.

From among 948 submissions, these seven playwrights were selected to participate in an intensive week-long retreat, designed to foster a peer-based community among the writers, their creative teams, and Lark’s staff through a series of conversations around the work.

Each new play receives ten hours of rehearsal in advance of a public staged reading, focusing on the writer’s self-stated developmental goals.

The playwrights define their own goals for what they want to accomplish, and then spend the week together with each other and their collaborators, working to achieve those goals. Each writer has the company of six other extraordinary writers, who are there not just as a sounding board, but as a community.

Playwrights' Week 2014 will take place September 22nd - 27th at the Lark (311 W. 43rd St. 5th floor). For more information about Playwrights' Week visit here.

The Lark will also live-tweet the event via @LarkTalks. To follow the conversation type #TheatreTalk in the search bar located at the top of your Twitter account starting at 7pm EDT on Monday, September 22. To view the entire conversation, click the “All” link located under “Results for #TheatreTalk” at the top. From that page you can track the conversation.

Of the questions submitted on Twitter, the Lark will select two to ask the writers.
